Wilson Scores Victory in Caraway Thriller

RANDLEMAN, NC :: Ryan Wilson only led one lap all night but it was the most important lap as he scored the victory in the second of two twin 40 lap Late Model races at Caraway Speedway on Friday night.  The win was Wilson’s second win of the season.

Wilson started the night in the second position for the first of the two features.  He was in second for most of the race before slipping to fourth during the duration of the race.  The top four cars were competitive all race.  He went on to finish fourth.  As a result, Wilson would start the second race in fifth after the top eight finishers were inverted.

Wilson ran much of the second feature in the third position until a late race caution set up a green-white-checkered finish and an opportunity for Wilson.  On the final lap, the two cars in front of him were racing for position when the car on the inside slipped up the track, opening a hole for Wilson.  Wilson drove to the inside and the other two made contact. Wilson went on to win the race.

“We had a pretty good car in both races,” said Wilson.  “The car was actually better in the first race.  We moved from fifth to third in the second race.  On a caution, we took the cone, got to second, then slipped to third and ran there most of the race.  We had a green-white-checkered and I took the inside of the cone.  Going into one on the last lap, the two cars in front of me made a hole for me so I went there. I was fine settling for third but on the last lap, when a hole opens up, I can’t just back off.  I would’ve been wrecked from behind if I hadn’t gone but I’m going to go for the win. Everyone wants to complain but that’s short track racing.  I wouldn’t intentionally wreck anyone.  The same thing’s happened to me three times this season.  I doubt anybody in short track racing has ever run their entire career without getting into a confrontation with someone.”

Wilson’s victory allowed him to pad his lead atop the Caraway Speedway track championship standings.  Wilson now has two wins and ten top five finishes on the 2013 season.

Wilson will be back in action on Sunday, September 8th at Caraway Speedway.
