Wilson Remains Caraway Points Leader Despite Late Race Incident

RANDLEMAN, NC :: Ryan Wilson appeared to have the win in hand at Caraway Speedway until the closing laps of the race when he was knocked out of contention because of contact by a competitor.  After the contact, Wilson settled a sixth place finish – his first finish outside the top five all season.

Wilson qualified second and started on the pole after a redraw.  He led the first 30 laps until being passed by a competitor.  Wilson again managed to take the lead on a restart and led until about two to go when he cut down a tire, ending his chances of winning.

“Took the lead on the start and led with a pretty good lead until about lap 30,” said Wilson. “Raced side by side for the lead and got nudged out of the way and dropped to second. Caution came out on lap 40 with 10 to go and I went to the outside. I was able to get down behind the leader and got a good run on him. In turns one and two on the next lap, I nudged him outta the way just as he had done to me.  I got the lead back with eight to go and thought we were in good shape.

“I slipped the slightest bit with three to go and another car caught us again. Going into turn one with two to go, he hit us two or three times before finally hitting us hard enough to cut the left rear tire down. We both almost wrecked but saved it. I ended up sixth with a cut tire. It’s just disappointing once again to lead 95% of the race and lose it like that. It seems like it happens every single race. It was our first finish outside of the top five this year.”

Wilson still holds the points lead at Caraway Speedway by two points.  He has seven top five finishes in eight starts on the season at Caraway Speedway.  His next race will be on Friday, July 5th in a 171 lap race as part of the Rusty Harpe Memorial.
