June 11, 2013 – 16 year old Dillon Bassett has yet to finish outside the top ten during the 2013 race season, and earned his first podium finish of the season during the last UARA-STARS event at Lonesome Pine Raceway (VA) on June 1st by finishing second.

Bassett’s tenth place effort at Rockingham in April has been his only finish outside the top five and this week as the UARA-STARS head into Anderson Motor Speedway (SC) for their first of two events at the Action Track of the Carolinas, Dillon Bassett is confident in his team’s ability to build on their previous consistency at Anderson.

Last season Dillon Bassett posted a fourth and fifth place finish in the UARA events at Anderson, earning Holley Performer of the Race in both appearances after starting 21st. The UARA-STARS always put on a great show with a strong field, and with 20 cars already on the entry list, Friday evening’s race is slated to live up to Anderson’s reputation.

The Bassett Racing team had Dillon Bassett’s No. 44 Ford on track testing this past Saturday and made great gains throughout the test session. “From our first run the car was good. As we made changes throughout the day it continually got better,” Bassett commented. “There were a couple changes that had us backsliding, but at the end of the day we found the best fit for our car in racetrim. I’m really looking forward to getting back to the track this week. We’ve got a pretty good piece.”

After starting 11th to finish second at Lonesome Pine Raceway, Dillon Bassett gained ground in the point standings and advanced to third. Bassett is hoping to carry his momentum into Anderson for a second consecutive podium finish and looking for his first win of the season.

“I’ve been trying to work on my qualifying runs, but it seems the more attention I focus on it the worse they get. With the change in tire compound, we put on a set of new Hoosiers this weekend so I was able to make a practice qualifying run,” Bassett said. “In order to get better starting positions I need to trust the set-up and not put so much pressure on myself that I overdrive the car.”

Dillon Bassett will find out how his qualifying efforts stack up when Sunoco Pole qualifying gets underway Friday evening at 5:45 PM. Racing is scheduled to start at 8 PM with the UARA-STARS taking the checkered flag for 150 laps after the completion of the Carolina Vintage Cars and US Legend Cars.
