Hayden Woods Finishes Second at Lonesome Pine

hayden_woods1Coeburn, VA – Hayden Woods returned to competitive form on Saturday night at Lonesome Pine Raceway after a two month streak of bad luck kept him outside the top-five in several races.  Woods started second and led a race high 33 laps en route to a runner-up finish.

“It feels great to be back up in the top three,” said Woods.  “We had a heck of a battle for the lead there.  I started using a different line in the closing laps and I started catching the leader. We started losing the handling in the last 20 laps.  The car got really loose. “

Woods qualified second with a 16.601 second lap.  He took the lead on the first lap and led the first 25 laps.  On a late race restart, Woods again used the outside line to take the lead but would be overtaken just six laps later.  From there, he held on to finish second in a photofinish at the line with another competitor.

“I’d like to thank God for keeping us safe.  If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be here.  He sent his son to die for us.  We had Josh Adcock on the hood which is a little kid that went to my church.  He fought for several years with many different sicknesses.  He passed away last week so we’ve got him on the hood tonight.”

Woods’ second place finish was his fourth top-five finish in the 2013 season.

Woods will return to action on June 1st at Motor Mile Speedway where he will compete in twin 100 lap races.
