Dillon Bassett Searching for Podium Finish at Lonesome Pine Raceway

DB Head ShotMay 29, 2013 – The UARA-STARS head into Lonesome Pine Raceway (VA) this weekend for the fourth event of the season after the scheduled fourth stop at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC) on May 18th was postponed due to rain. With three top ten finishes, and two best finishes of fifth this season, 16 year old Dillon Bassett is hoping to back up his performance last season at Lonesome Pine and earn a podium finish.

The No. 44 Bassett Racing team had divided thoughts on the rainout at Dillon Motor Speedway. Bassett’s crew chief, Seth Smith, was looking forward to getting the race underway as he was excited about the handling of the No. 44 Ford in race trim. Dillon Bassett however was slightly discouraged after qualifying 13th and is looking forward to having more time to improve their qualifying set up before returning.

Last season Dillon Bassett earned two victories and collected three runner-up finishes, one coming at Lonesome Pine Raceway. Bassett charged from the 16th starting position to challenge Travis Swaim on the green-white-checkered finish last September. They took the checkered flag side by side with Swaim having the advantage on the outside and Bassett was awarded Holley Performer of the Race for gaining twelve positions.

Heading into this weekend Dillon Bassett is tied with Travis Swaim fourth in the point standings, 70 points behind leader Ronnie Bassett Jr. Dillon Bassett is searching for his first win of the season and looks to have a solid run at Lonesome Pine to gain ground in the championship standings.

Dillon Bassett had his No. 44 on track testing at the 3/8 mile oval in Coeburn, Virginia Sunday. “The car felt good during our test. We were a little snug in the corner, but Seth (Smith) said he has something that should help when we go back this week,” Bassett commented. “I’m focused on the race, but I’m hoping I can improve my qualifying run and build some consistency going forward.”

The Bassett Racing crew will have a four hour open practice session Friday to get their racecar dialed in, in addition to practice sessions Saturday afternoon. Qualifying will roll off at 5:00 PM with the first green flag scheduled to drop at 7:00 PM for the Pure 4 division. You can listen to live race coverage online at
