jpeg-10MOORESVILLE, N.C. (April 29, 2013) – Spencer Gallagher and the No. 23 Make-A-Wish, Allegiant Air Chevrolet Impala SS team earned a career best second place finish in Sunday’s ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Salem Speedway.

After starting the event from the 15th position, the Las Vegas, Nev., native quickly worked his way into the top-10, reporting his Chevrolet was becoming consistently looser on the long green flag runs. During the lap 83 caution, crew chief Dave Hirsch brought Gallagher to pit road for four tires, fuel, track bar and a wedge adjustment, to combat the loose condition. With fresh tires, Gallagher charged to the front, taking over second place on lap 105. Tracking down nine-time series champion Frank Kimmel, Gallagher radioed his crew that he planned to follow the veteran as an in-race learning experience while conserving his tires.

Caution on lap 147 gave Gallagher another chance to come down pit road for attention by his No. 23 Make-A-Wish, Allegiant Air pit crew, with two right side tires and fuel. Once again finding himself behind Kimmel, Gallagher remained calm, planning out his late race move for the lead.

Dipping low off of turn-four, Gallagher was able to pass Kimmel for the lead on lap 193, before the caution flew for the final time two laps later. Ready for an exciting green, white, checkered restart, Gallagher worked his away ahead of second place Tom Hessert, before taking the white flag. Driving into turn one for the final time, second place with four fresh tires was able to go low, completing a clean pass. Gallagher battled back in the final corners, airing on the side of a clean finish, bringing home the No. 23 Make-A-Wish, Allegiant Air Chevrolet Impala SS second.

Spencer Gallagher, Driver of the No. 23 Make-A-Wish, Allegiant Air Chevrolet:
“I absolutely love Salem Speedway,” Gallagher said after his career-best finish. “What you saw there at the end was the difference between four tires and two. What I was afraid was going to happen, happened. My Allegiant Air, Gallagher Motorsports team did a heck of a job today with their calls and on pit road. I am going home with a nearly destroyed race car and we still finished second, that is a feat only accomplished in ARCA Racing Series competition at Salem Speedway.”
