Dillon Bassett Eager to Return to UARA-STARS Victory Lane

DB 4.8.13April 8, 2013 – Coming off consecutive top five finishes, Dillon Bassett is ready to head into Rockingham Speedway, one of his favorite racetracks, this weekend for the third stop on the UARA-STARS tour. The STARS join the NASCAR Camping World Trucks and Frank Kimmel Street Stock Nationals for the second North Carolina Education Lottery 200.

Dillon Bassett became an instant fan of Rockingham’s one mile banked oval when he took the track for the first time one year ago. He impressed during the rookie practice session, and The Rock immediately clicked with Bassett’s driving style. “From my first laps on the track I felt at home. It’s the biggest track I’ve been on, but I like being able to run wide open,” Dillon Bassett commented on Rockingham’s speed.

There is no denying that Dillon Bassett impressed at Rockingham in his rookie season last year. He earned a top five qualifying spot in April, and remained in the top five for the majority of the 75 lap event. During a late race restart he missed a shift and dropped several positions but worked his way forward to produce a top ten finish in his first visit.

When the UARA-STARS returned for the season finale last November, Dillon Bassett claimed his first career Sunoco Pole award. He backed up his qualifying performance in the race and came home second to Clay Rogers, solidifying his Rookie of the Year Honors and bringing him just shy of the points Championship.

His 2013 season has kicked off strong, but for Dillon Bassett top fives are not enough. He is ready to take his #44 Bassett Racing team to victory lane, and Rockingham just may be the turning point. Dillon Bassett enters the weekend fourth in points, 43 behind current point leader Ronnie Bassett Jr. The UARA-STARS will hit the track Friday afternoon for practice. Qualifying takes place Saturday morning with the green flag dropping at 2 PM for 75 laps of racing.
