DB 4.8.13April 23, 2013 – Defending UARA-STARS Rookie of the Year, 16 year old Dillon Bassett, received his first invite to the prestigious Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown held for the 3rd consecutive season at Richmond International Raceway. This Thursday April 25th Bassett will attempt to join NASCAR celebrities and top contenders among the late model stock car ranks in the 75 lap fundraiser benefiting the Denny Hamlin Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

Last Tuesday Dillon Bassett made his first laps around the 3/4 mile Richmond oval during the open test session that saw approximately 30 cars take advantage of the practice time. With no official times, Bassett’s No. 44 Bassett Racing team is unsure where they fell on the charts, but knows they have work to do.

“Our car was pretty tight getting in and through the center of the corners. I’m excited to head back to Richmond this week, it’s a neat event to get invited to and hopefully we are able to make some positive changes to the car for Thursday’s race,” Dillon Bassett commented.

Last season Dillon Bassett competed in two NASCAR sanctioned late model events, with a best finish of third. Thursday’s charity race will mark his first NASCAR sanctioned event of 2013. With three UARA-STARS races complete this season, Bassett has two top fives and one top ten and sits fourth in the point standings.

Dillon Bassett and his team led by crew chief Seth Smith are prepared to battle the best of the best, and the 16 year old driver isn’t intimidated by drivers up to twice his age and many who have lots of laps logged at Richmond International Raceway. The 6th annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 PM following the completion of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Blue Ox 100.

Visit Richmond Int’l Raceway online at www.rir.com to purchase your tickets for Thursday’s race. Don’t forget all proceeds benefit the Denny Hamlin Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
