jpeg-1Mooresville, NC (March 4th, 2013) Gray Gaulding and the #02 Krispy Kreme TruMoo Milk Toyota Racing team finished 6th at Phoenix International Raceway in the Talking Stick Resort 60.

Gaulding had never raced on a track larger than 0.625 mile, but the one mile D-shaped Phoenix International Raceway didn’t trouble Gaulding, a Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender. After 26 laps on the track Gaulding finished first practice 11th overall with a time of 28.16 at 127.8 mph. Veteran crew chiefs Doug George and Doug Howe took the feedback from Gaulding and they began to work on the Krispy Kreme Toyota Camry before final practice.

Gray ran 28 laps in final practice turning a time of 27.515 at 130.8 mph putting the #02 Krispy Kreme Toyota 9th on the speed charts. More feedback from the young 15-year old Gaulding led to adjustments for qualifying.

Gaulding’s #02 Krispy Kreme TruMoo Milk Toyota Camry was the 8th car to set time for the evenings Talking Stick Resort 60. With a 27.03 / 133.15 mph Gaulding set the third fastest time.

Gray Gaulding lined his #02 Krispy Kreme TruMoo Milk Toyota Camry on the inside of row 2. Gaulding slid back to seventh early reporting his Krispy Kreme Camry to be extremely tight. Crew Chief Doug George immediately began to work with Gaulding on adjustments he could make to free up his car.

After several cautions and the race being a short 60 laps, Gaulding knew he had to move back forward. With a 12 lap green flag run Gaulding was able to move forward but would lose those positions during the several cautions that followed.

“Our car was just to tight,” said Gaulding “We came here (Phoenix International Raceway) to learn and get seat time before Bristol” (season opener for the K&N East Series). “I am proud of this team, and where we have come in a short period of time.”

“Very proud of Gray and the entire team, said Doug George (crew chief of the #02 Krispy Kreme TruMoo Milk Toyota Camry). We came out west this week to learn, “Gray was able to learn about racing on these one mile tracks, and we was able to learn more about the series and how the races play out”

The next race for the #20 Krispy Kreme TruMoo Milk Toyota Racing team will be the Bristol 125 on March   16th at “The World’s Fastest Half Mile” Bristol Motor Speedway.
