After four months off, the UARA-STARS return to action this weekend at Southern National Motorsports Park. In past seasons the 16 race tour has kicked off at Hickory Motor Speedway, but this year they return to SNMP for the first time since 2007 to welcome the 2013 season.

Reigning Rookie of the Year, 15 year old Dillon Bassett, is ready to get back behind the wheel and kick off his 2013 Championship efforts. Last year Bassett ended his UARA season on a high note earning his first career Sunoco Pole and a runner-up finish at Rockingham. He also walked out of Rockingham second in the Championship battle, just 18 points behind Travis Swaim.

Unlike many of the UARA-STARS who have yet to race at Southern National, Dillon Bassett has one race under his belt on the 4/10 mile banked oval. In November Bassett competed in the inaugural Thanksgiving All-Star Classic. His 18th place effort was not the result his team was looking for, but Bassett gained valuable track time and learned how to maneuver around the fast asphalt track.

Dillon Bassett enters this weekend with a different crew as his #44 team saw changes during the off season. This season Bassett has Seth Smith calling the shots as crew chief. Smith makes the switch from Ronnie Bassett Jr.’s #04 where he has been car chief since 2011. The duo kicked off their new relationship at Southern National in November and is looking forward to carrying Bassett’s late season momentum into 2013.

After testing last Friday the team has a solid foundation to take to the track this coming weekend. Bassett’s car was a little tight, but he is excited for what they’ve got going into the season opener. “Everyone has worked hard during the off season and we are ready to get back to the track. I’m looking forward to see what 2013 has in store,” Bassett said.

Dillon Bassett will have his #44 Ford on track Friday at Southern National for practice and the UARA-STARS are scheduled to take the green flag for the 150 lap event Saturday at 2 PM.
