The Long Cold Winter Is Over

daytona-bud-shootoutThe long cold winter is over. This weekend the thunder will once again be heard in the canyons as NASCAR takes to the high banks of Daytona for the Sprint Unlimited.  The Unlimited, formerly know as the Bud Shootout, marks the beginning of the racing season and it’s not a moment too soon.  The past few weeks have been brutal.  The Rolex 24 and the Super Bowl provided slight distractions but not having weekend racing is starting to get tough.

Last weekend was the low point so the Sprint Unlimited can’t get here fast enough.  A virus swept though the house and I spent all day Sunday on my back in the bed with nothing to watch but DVR reruns of The Big Bang Theory.  Man I miss racing!  I have been mopie and depressed for the past few weeks.  I haven’t even felt like writing.  Looks like all of that is about to change.

Today everything seems a little brighter, my mood is better, there is spring in my step.  I know that it’s only a few more hours until the green flag waves again.  ARCA was qualifying and NASCAR was practicing today so there was live racing news.  The forecast at my house for raceday is cold rain in the morning and possible snow in the evening but I really don’t care.  Looks like the weather in Daytona will be fine from some racing and that’s all that matters.

NASCAR has the longest season of any sport.  Starting in February and ending 9 months later in November.  I guess that’s part of why the off season is so tough, you get used to there being a race every weekend and when they stop it’s like a shock.  Racing is more than just a sport it’s part of who we are.  A few months without it is about all we can stand.

The countdown is about to hit zero and it’s about to be on!
