Time To Pull An All-Nighter

Time To Pull An All-Nighter

DP Pack2Who’s ready to pull an all-nighter?  On Saturday at 330 pm the green flag will waive for the 51st running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the US racing season will officially begin.  NASCAR will follow in a few weeks with the Daytona 500 and a few weeks after that most local tracks will begin 2013 schedules.

This weekend is all about the Rolex 24 though.  It’s a unique race, pushing men and machines to their break points during 24 grueling hours of on track battle.  Originally the American answer to the 24 Hours of Le Mans it has become a major international event in it’s own right.  Each year drivers from around the world make the trip to Daytona to test their skills and compete for the honor of receiving a watch.

The Rolex 24 at Daytona also test fans.  Those who find themselves at the track will be hard pressed to sleep much with the constant roar of engines and squeal of tires.  Lap after lap the on track action will keep their attention all night long.  Most fans will be watching on SpeedTv, at least until 11pm when their coverage breaks until 9am on Sunday.

Take heart, this year Speed is planning on providing live streaming overnight coverage online.  Last year some dedicated camera men and announcers stuck it out through the night and kept online coverage going.

So who’s ready to pull an all-nighter?  Live coverage online, live scoring on the Grand-Am site and twitter should be more than enough to keep everyone up dated.  I can’t wait! After months of boredom, watching 2012 races on the DVR and Youtube it’s time for the engines to fire once again in anger.  24 hours may not be enough.
