Gray Gaulding & Coulter Motorsports Gear Up For PASS North-South Shootout This Weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (November 6, 2012) – Gray Gaulding and the No. 2 Krispy Kreme, Coulter Motorsports Toyota team head to Sophia, N.C., this weekend for the 10th running of the esteemed North-South Shootout.

While the short track “Mega Event” has typically been known for its modified and late model racing, officials this year added a new twist by billing the tour modifieds with the PASS super late models. Pro All Star Series (PASS)-South officials have joined forces with the legendary event, making it the 15th points race of the 2012 season. The stop at Caraway Speedway will not only mark the second visit for Gaulding but for the North-South Shootout in their 10-year span.

Caraway Speedway, often an intimidating racetrack with its tricky, uniquely different design, has become a favorite stop for Gaulding and his Coulter Motorsports crew. Competing in the PASS-South’s Labor Day Classic at the .455-mile asphalt track, Gaulding ran well within the top-five for the entire event, before a wreck by a competitor during the green-white-checkered finish took him from contention. Crew chief Randy Renfrow plans to use what they learned in early September, coupled with three days of practice, to make sure Gaulding and the No. 2 Krispy Kreme Toyota are poised to stay up front.

“I am really looking forward to going back to Caraway Speedway,” said Gaulding. “We had a lot of speed and grip when we were there in September and unfortunately got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, ending our night. After having over a month off, everybody will be geared up for the last two races and I feel it’s two of our best tracks. Randy (Renfrow) and all of my Coulter Motorsports guys work hard week in and week out on the No. 2 Krispy Kreme Toyota preparing for these races.”

Gaulding will begin his race week with practice sessions Thursday from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. followed by qualifying at 5 p.m. Saturday sees another round of practice from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and the green flag will wave over the North-South Shootout at 2:00 p.m. (All times Eastern.)
