Larry Moore Win Charger Race

Dillon, S.C., August 29, 2012: Dillon Motor Speedway hosted six features this past Saturday, August 25. This weekend Larry Moore led all 25 laps in the Charger feature to capture his second career win since the speedway opened in 2007. Before the field completed the first lap, there was a big crash on the backstretch that included Brian Owens, AJ Walsh, Neal Anderson and Trey Cutler. The feature went caution free once the field went back to green. Bobby June was right on Moore’s back bumper, but he could never make a clean pass. June had to settle for second. Mike Watts finished third, and Troy Norton finished fourth. Brian Owens rounded out the top-five.

The Carolina Eastern Mini Cup Association (CEMCA) had a stacked field of cars for their double-header event sponsored by Cascades. Steve Chauncey won the first event with Bill Willis finishing second. Justin Hicks finished third, Chris Connor fourth and Chris Bachman rounded out the top-five.  Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd was running well inside the top-five out of 15 cars, but towards the middle of the feature, he was caught up in an accident.

The second feature had multiple accidents as the drivers fought hard to take top honors. Bill Willis, the 2011 CEMCA champion took the checkered flag with Steve Chauncey finishing second. Chris Connor crossed the line in third, Dean Tambert fourth and Anthony Bryant captured his first top-five of the season.

There was only one caution in the 50-lap Super Truck feature, and that’s when Neal Grant had issues and stopped on the backstretch. Archie Adams Jr. went on to dominate and take the checkered flag. Hal Goodson finished second followed by Anthony Adams, Terry Moore and Kevin Parsons.

AJ Hyatt took the checkered flag in the Street Stock feature this past weekend. Hyatt’s car was protested on Saturday night and declared legal Monday afternoon. Marshall Jones and Ricky Locklair Sr. were trying to get around Hyatt in the closing laps, but they finished second and third respectively. Tommy Poole finished fourth, and Joey Wilkes had a strong top-five finish.

John Nemechek, son of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Joe Nemecheck took the checkered flag in the Allison Legacy Series feature. Justin LaDuke was the runner-up followed by Jantzen Stirewalt in third. Casey Hillenburg, son of Rockingham Speedway President Andy Hillenburg finished fourth while Devin O’ Connell rounded out the top-five.

On Monday, September 3, Dillon Motor Speedway will be back in action for the “Sixth Annual Labor Day Monday 200.” The race is one of the speedway’s most prestigious events of the season. Tickets are absolutely free, and all fans in the grandstands will be treated to a free hotdog thanks to Fred Bowker and Raceway Automotive of Hartsville.

Late Models will run 100 laps for a $2,000 purse. Chargers, Street Stocks, Four Cylinders, Mini Cups and UCARs will hit the track as well. On Monday, gates will open at 10 a.m. with practice beginning at 12:30 p.m. Qualifying will be at 3 p.m., and the green flag will drop at 5 p.m.
